2nd and 4th Saturdays are Public Holidays For Banks – Finance Ministry :

RBI Government approved a long-pending petition on Thursday. i.e., Bank will be closed on 2nd and 4th Saturday’s. FinMin sent notification the banks all over India.

Bank unions were been asking for five-day week. The RBA finally conceded and agreed the  second and fourth Saturdays of the month as holidays and other Saturdays, as full working days.

Here by the central government declares the second and the fourth Saturday as Holidays for all the banks. This will be implemented from September 1st 2015.

So it is clear that, Banks will be closed on two Saturdays in a month. Which does not benefit  either banks or its customers. If Any Month has 5 Saturdays, Then it also will be only 2nd and 4th Saturdays are Holidays, Remaining 3 Saturdays are working days.

An Alternative for Bank Holidays :

Instead of announcing  holidays for all bank employees. The employee who will work on Saturdays should be given a day off on any alternate days like hospitals, public transport and other essential services.
