All India Democratic women’s Association (AIDWA) activists staged a dharna at Gandhi statue near RTC bus stand protesting the apathy of police towards the acid attack victim Jareena.
Women activists led by AIDWA district president Nagabhushanamma, secrelary sailakshmi expressed their resentment by tying black ribbons to their eyes and raised slogans against state government. They gave a memorandum to Gandhi statue seeking protection to women in the society.
Speaking on the occasion. the AIDWA leaders criticised the dereliction of duties by police and said the police did not take any action against the accused despite the victim Jareena lodged many complaints with police saying that she has threat from her former husband. They opined that if police took action on receipt of complaint. the acid attack would not have occurred.
It may be noted here that the degree college lecturer Jareena has became victim to the acid attack by her former husband. She took divorce from Khaja one year ago. Khaja who is nursing grudge threw acid on her face causing loss eyesight. They matte responsible police to this incident.
Meanwhile, the degree college students at Piler where Jareena has been working slatted a rasta rake demanding the arrest of Khaja.
