ICC T20 World Cup Schedule release Eden to host the final

The Schedule for ICC World T20 and match fixtures are completed. Eden, host the T20 World cup final. ICC World T20, to be held in India from March 11 to April 3 in 2016 across eight cities. Matches will take place across Bengaluru, Chennai, Dharamsala, Mohali, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi and Kolkata, which gets to host the summit clash at the iconic Eden Gardens. The popular ground had missed out on hosting big ticket games during 50-over World Cup held in India four years ago.

Sixth World T20, first in India

This will be the Sixth time that the World T20 will be played where 16 cricket teams from all over the world will fight to take the world cup for the shortest format of the game. This time around India will be the country which will be acting as the hosts to the ICC tournament. It will be for the 1st time that the country will be hosting the major ICC event without any collaboration.

In the world cup top 8 teams will get the direct qualification to the Super 10 round while the bottom 2 ranked teams will join in the Associate members to qualify for the qualification round. The tournament is set to be played from 11thMarch to 3rd of April.

Eden to host the final

Selecting the Eden to host the final is due to its seating capability. Eden has a seating capability of 70,000. So, it will be the best option among all other cricket grounds in India. However, the India versus England game was shifted to Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru after ICC found that Eden Gardens’ renovation work was not complete. BCCI said the chosen venues will have to meet the prescribed requirements. “These venues will host the matches subject to fulfilling the prescribed requirements of the ICC and BCCI while adhering to the statutory obligations that are mandatory for hosting an International match,” said the BCCI in a statement. I am confident that all the venues nominated will deliver a world class event.” The Board has also constituted a managing committee for the biennial event, of which president Jagmohan Dalmiya will be chairman and Thakur the convener.
