In accordance with the provisions of sub-section (1) of Section 23 of the RTE Act, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) vide Notification dated 23rd August, 2010 laid down the minimum qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher for class I to VIII. Candidates looking for the post of teacher in Punjab’s government schools from Class 1 to Class 8 have to clear Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). Paper 1 is meant for teachers opting for Class 1 to Class 5 and Paper 2 for aspirants opting for Class 6 to Class 8. It is conducted by both Central government and state governments in India.

Educational qualification: Aspirants should have a graduation degree, including BA, B Sc, B Com. All B Ed graduates need to pass this exam to work as a teacher.

Exam pattern: The test will comprise of a total 150 multiple type question (MCQ) with each carrying 1 mark. The test will be divided in two parts comprising Paper I and Paper II.
