Restrictions imposed in Srinagar over Muharram procession
Strict Restrictions have been imposed in order to prohibit the moving of Muharram parade.
“Restrictions have been imposed in seven police station areas of Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, M.R. Gunj, Safakadal, Lal Bazaar and Maisuma today (Saturday),” said senior police officer.
The senior nationalist leaders named Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabir Shah and Muhammad Nayeem Khan were house arrested under the police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The city was completely restricted. The main or the centre area is placed by rolls of razor fitted concertina to block the people and the pedestrian movement.
“No untoward incident has been reported from anywhere so far. The restrictions imposed are purely preventive in nature and these do not apply to bonafide movement of citizens,” the officer asserted.

Strict actions were taken for the moving of parade
The tenth day of Muharram called as Ashura according to the Islamic calendar is observed to honor the martyrdom of Imam Hussain who is the grandson of Islam’s Prophet Mohammed. Since the beginning of nationalist violence that was happened in Jammu and Kashmir in the early 1990s the authorities have been imposing several restrictions to disallow the moving of the 10th Muharram parade in the Srinagar colony.
Law and orders is maintained in Srinagar
During the month of Muharram the devotes will be taking parade in the streets holding banners and models of the Mausoleum of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions, who had fell at Karbala. All the Indian Parliamentary soldiers are the standing guards for this event. Each and every place is covered with rolls so that people should not be allowed to that area. The rules are maintained by the police. People have gathered plenty in number for this event. Law and Orders are maintained in Srinagar for this reason.
