Samsung Gear S2: The South Korean company Samsung is all set to launch its latest smartwatch, the Gear S2 tomorrow (January 21) in India. The company has started sending media invites for an event to be held on Thursday. Samsung Gear S2 is expected to be launched at the event.Also, it is expected that the company might launch the Gear S2 Classic smartwatch along with the Gear VR headset. The launch invite from Samsung India for the event shows the Gear S2 smartwatch with a tagline that says, “Witness progressive innovation.” However, nothing has been revealed about the Gear VR in the launch invite.

Samsung India has started sending media invites for an event on Thursday where the company is expected to launch the Gear S2 smartwatch.
The South Korean company is also likely to launch the Gear S2 Classic smartwatch along with the Gear VR headset. Samsung in its India launch invite for the event shows the Gear S2 smartwatch with a tagline that says, “Witness progressive innovation.” Unfortunately, the launch invite doesn’t mention anything about the Gear VR.
To recall, Samsung initially detailed its new Gear S2 smartwatch ahead of IFA. At the event, Samsung however revealed more details about the new Gear S2 apart from the Gear S2 Classic smartwatches, including the prices.
Samsung’s Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic smartwatches were priced at EUR 349 (approximately Rs. 25,800) and EUR 399 (approximately Rs. 29,500) respectively in Finland. We can expect the Indian prices of the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic wearables to be around this mark.
The Gear S2 works with Android devices running Android 4.4 and above and with the devices that sport more than 1.5GB of RAM. The company recently announced that the Tizen-Based Gear S2 will soon be compatible with iOS devices as well.
Samsung Gear S2 is powered by a Samsung Exynos 3250 chipset which houses a dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz and paired with 512MB of RAM. There is also 4GB of internal storage. The smartwatch comes in three variants – Gear S2, Gear S2 Classic and Gear S2 3G (powered by a different chipset offering 3G connectivity).
The Samsung Gear S2 comes bundled with the heart rate sensor, gyroscope, accelerometer, barometer, ambient light sensor and also GPS if it is a 3G model. Thanks to the IP68 certification of the smartwatch which makes its water and dust resistant. The device is backed by a 250mAh battery.
The Gear S2 works with Android devices running Android 4.4 and above along with the devices which pack more than 1.5GB of RAM. It has also been announced recently by Samsung that the Gear S2 will also be compatible with iOS devices soon.
